NMMDC administers a Matrix server for discussing a variety of topics related to technology/art in New Mexico. Matrix is similar to Slack or Discord, but is not hosted by a closed corporate system. Instead, the information is stored on independently maintained servers, such as NMMDC's own hardware.
Please feel free to join our matrix server: matrix.nmmdc.net. You can do this with an existing Matrix account if you already have one, or you can create one using NMMDC as your homeserver. You can make a single account on any server (your "homeserver") and then talk to anyone on any server. So just create one somewhere (even our NMMDC server, with the instructions above) and start exploring and chatting. The process to create an account is kind of confusing, so just consider it a weird video game where you win an account at the end. Once you have the account you can join servers using the app of your choice. So many options - the price of freedom from corporate constraints?
